Incredible day from start to finish. Exceptional experience for all levels of birders. Extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic! Easy walking and comfortable throughout. So many birds!

I’ve birded with Javier with Lugares Parajosos several times and every time was amazing. The first time I went on a tour in the Gulf of California with birders from Denver Audubon. Javier made the day with his ID expertise and knowledge of local birds. Since then I’ve joined him for local birding with experienced birders and newbies. He makes everyone feel welcome and engages people at all levels.

Genial experiencia!! Vimos al menos 33 especies de aves en nuestro recorrido: entre aves playeras y endémicas de la región. It’s been four months since my trip, and I’m still in awe of Javier and Max—and the 60+ bird species they shared with me. My all-day outing with them was the highlight of my week in Los Cabo’s, Mexico. Endemic species such as the Xantu’s hummingbird; species I see where I live in Vancouver, Washington like the Black-headed Grosbeak; raptors like osprey and Red-tailed Hawk; and just plain gorgeous birds like the Gilded Flicker, the Verdin, and the Lazuli Bunting.

Tuvimos el privilegio de realizar una experiencia de avistamiento de aves con Javier, y fue realmente inolvidable. Javier tiene una habilidad increíble para transmitir emociones y asombro en cada ave que observamos. No se limita a señalar especies: comparte sus historias, comportamientos y detalles únicos que hacen que cada avistamiento sea especial. Su profundo conocimiento de la región de Los Cabos y de sus ecosistemas es impresionante, y su pasión es contagiosa. Gracias a Javier, logramos conectar no solo con las aves, sino también con la belleza y el espíritu del lugar. Si visitas Los Cabos y deseas vivir una experiencia auténtica y enriquecedora en la naturaleza, recomiendo a Javier sin dudarlo como guía.

Best part of my trip in Baja. Javier was knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and very easygoing and enjoyable company. He picked us up from our hostel and accommodated changes to the lunch provided with a delicious vegan lunch. Even if you are not an avid bird watcher, the experience takes you to some lesser known spots and enriches your trip by immersing you in the unique nature Southern Baja offers. Great way to spend a morning! (We did the tour in Todos Santos).

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our two days with Javier Alcala who is a knowledgeable and enthusiatic birding guide and ornithologist. When we come back next year, we be sure to hire him once again to help us find birds and identify them confidently. We have no hesitation in recommending his services!

We had an excellent morning birding with Xavier. Saw many, many birds with this well informed guide. Glad we fit this in before heading home.

What an awesome day we had in Sierra de la Laguna! As an ornithologist, Javier is extremely knowledgeable and skilled at identifying the local bird species. Beyond this, he is a very passionate guide and educator and works with the local people to make a positive impact for his community. This meant we also had the opportunity to meet and share a delicious meal with the local ranchers and learn much more about the region we were exploring. Javier also offers shorter tours closer to la Paz which I am sure would be very worthwhile experiences if you cannot commit a full day. However if you have time I highly recommend the tour in Sierra de la Laguna for the beautiful scenery and unique bird life.
